Viola J. Burkhead, age 88, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield.
She is survived by three daughters; Verna (Ralph) McGee of Springfield, Patty Herron of Columbus, Georgia, Mary Jo Lornitis of Springfield, Several Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren and sisters, Dorothy Churchill of Mt. Sterling & Lola Otto of Petersburg and several nieces & nephews.
She married Edward Burkhead on December 8, 1967. Viola is preceded in death by her husband on March 18, 2009, and a daughter, Janet Tomlin in 1965. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals, playing dice, cards and loved to bowl.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 until time of funeral service at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Rev. Ken Gennicks officiating. Burial will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association

To Aunt Viola’s family, It is hard to lose a parent. My heart goes out to all of you. Let this be a time for your family to be together to get thru this sad time.

It was a beautiful service. Grandmother, you would have approved. Even though you were 88 and saw great great grandchildren, I wish you could have stayed a little longer with us on earth. I love you and I know I will see you again. I am truly blessed to have been your grand daughter.
