Jason Mark Blackard, age 35, of Clinton, formerly of Petersburg and Colorado Springs, CO, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013 at his home.

He is survived by his children, Carley R. Wilson of Petersburg and Tyler K. Blackard of Clovis, NM; parents, Kenneth and E. Kay Blackard of Petersburg; a sister, Rebecca (Terry) Miller of Athens; two nephews, Ethan and Bryce Miller; grandparents, Thomas E. and Jo Evelyn Boyer; three uncles, Thomas W. Boyer, Steven Boyer, and Christopher (Andrea) Boyer; grandmother, Jane Blackard of Springfield; three aunts, Jerrie Gainey, Kay Burkhart, and Susan Rothert; and many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Lula and Hannon Green; and grandfather, Arch L. Blackard.

Jason was born on January 1, 1978 in Springfield, IL, the son of Kenneth and Evelyn Boyer Blackard.

Jason attended PORTA High School and later received his GED from Lincoln’s Challenge in Rantoul, IL.

While Jason lived in Colorado Springs, CO for thirteen years, he worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was most recently employed at Trinity Structural Towers for the last year and half in Clinton, IL as a Class A Welder.

He loved body-building, camping, hiking, and to riding Harley motorcycles. Jason loved his new truck and went “boone-dogging” any chance he had.

He was well-loved and never knew a stranger. Jason was always willing and loved to help others and thought of others more than himself. He had a great sense of humor and as most people know Jason was one-of-a-kind.

Jason will be truly missed but not forgotten.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2013 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.

Funeral services will be held on 11:00 AM Friday, March 22, 2013 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. After the funeral services, a Celebration of Life, where everyone is welcome to share stories or memories, will take place at the Athens Community Park.

Rev. Danny Boyer will be officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded.

Burial will be held at a later date at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.

Condolences

  1. There are no words to express how very saddened I am to hear of my dear cousins passing. So instead, I will look to The Lord to find comfort for myself and all who knew and loved Jason. Although our hearts are shattered and we may feel hopeless at times, He will never leave us.

  4. I was heartbroken to hear of Jason’s passing. He really was a great guy. I’m blessed to have reconnected with him over the last couple of years.

  9. Kay Kenny & Family, I am so sorry to hear of your Jason. I am still in shock about your son. I can not believe the pain, the lost and the Why’s you must be feeling. Kay remember that God is in controll, He has a much bigger plan for Jason and he needed him NOW!! We know not the time or day when god will call. As Christians we know he is in Heaven with Jesus and having a great time showing everyone how to lift weights and about the trucks!

  10. I had the privelage of being best friends with Jason when we were younger and I will always remember the three J’s…Jason Blackard, Jason Boyer, and John Doggett. Although words cannot express the void left in his absence, I love you bro and you do not know how much you will be missed. My deepest sympathies go out to Kay, Kenny, Becky and Jason’s children. This too shall pass.

  11. I spent time in illinois and florida with jason, we ran across the east coast together….we lived together, he was truly unique. I will always remember his hilarious personality and that he had my back always…. my thoughts go to his family

  15. My buddy is gone and is resting with the lord. I love Jason and his family and I my heart is with your family. Jason and I were very close for many years, but as we got older we separated to find our own path in life. Please know I love all of you and Jason will be missed. I remember many times Jason and I telling each other how much we loved one another and I remember the last hug I got from him, he told me to promise him his kids will always be taken care of, if anything ever happened to him.   16. please note my updated phone number. I think of Jason everyday and can remember all the great times we had. i dont think – day goes by, I dont miss him. Jason will always be in my heart and With me everywhere I go.
