Beulah Imogene Way, age 99, of Salem, Missouri, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024.
She was born September 26, 1924 in Chandlerville, IL, the daughter of Ulysses and Sylvia (Smith) Jones.
She married Ruel “Bud” Way on January 25, 1940. He preceded her in death in 2008.
Imogene is survived by her children, Joyce Munter, Ruel, Jr. (Betsy) Way, Juanita (Jim) Hawks, Sharon (Doug) Wendler, and Stanley (Kathy) Way; sixteen grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and eleven and a half great-great grandchildren.
She is also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Munter; two sisters, Irene (Jones) Haber and Geraldine (husband Jerry) (Jones) Smith; two brothers, William “Bill” Jones and Eugene “Gene” Jones; granddaughter, Sheila (Munter) Esparza; and great-granddaughter, Sharodon Jayne Carver
Imogene worked with her husband, Ruel for several years as a bookkeeper.
Her family and her love for Christ were so very important to her. She served for Ashland Church of Christ in Ashland, Illinois as Sunday school superintendent, teacher, youth sponsor, and Ladies Circle officer both organizing and performing at Mother/Daughter banquets and among other activities. She also attended Petersburg Church of Christ and Athens Christian Church where she taught Sunday school and was an officer of the Ladies Joy Circle for a term.
Her talents were many. She loved crocheting where she was Grand Champion at the 1990 Illinois State Fair. Imogene was a talented poet. She wrote poetry about everything and later had a small book published of her poems. She was also an excellent cake maker where she made wedding cakes for several family members. Imogene also was a great seamstress where she made many bridesmaids dresses, prom and homecoming dresses for many occasions. Lastly, she loved to sing. She taught her children and grandchildren many songs.
She loved to play cards and board games with her family, especially the grandchildren.
Visitation for Imogene will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 10:00 AM until time of Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM at the Athens Christian Church. Rev. Ken Gennicks will be officiating.
Memorial contributions can be given to the Athens Christian Church.
