Springfield

Anna May Fawns nee Oschwald received her Crown of Life on Friday May 10th in Springfield, Illinois.  Born in Andrew, Illinois, on May 28, 1934, to William and Ida Oschwald, Anna May graduated from Williamsville High School in 1952.  She married George Fawns of Williamsville in 1953.  They were devoted parents to five children, Michael (Marybeth) of Sherman, Mickey Yokley (Tom), Patrick (Alicia) and Susan Butterfield (Scott) all of Williamsville, and Jody Freedlund (Kurt) of Acworth, Georgia.

A founding member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sherman, Anna May served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years still following several of her former students.  She was a member of Friends in Faith, serving as President, and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.  Anna May retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1993.

A warm and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Anna May shared her faith, food (especially her “famous” cookies), and laughter, in endless quantities.  She was an avid fan of the Williamsville Bullets and was especially proud to watch her grandkids compete. Many people knew Anna May as Meme; she was a grandma to all of the community. Her popcorn balls and witches brew were popular to generations of Halloween trick or treaters in Williamsville.

Anna May was preceded in death by her beloved husband George in 2003, and dear son Patrick in 2023.  Also preceding her were her mother and father, brothers William and James Oschwald, sisters Mary Tarr, Margaret Lindstrom and Wilma Brittin.

Meme is survived by 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Concordia Village Christ Care Fund in honor of her loving caregivers.

Visitation for Anna May will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 9:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sherman.  Burial will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery near Williamsville immediately after the services.
