Ann Mitts passed away peacefully on April 11, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Ann was born July 17, 1923 in Cantrall the daughter of Thomas and Anna Markey Wood. She was united in marriage to Dean E. Mitts on July 4, 1944 in Cantrall, IL. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2009. They were married for 65 years.
Ann graduated from Athens High School and Brown’s Business College. She was employed by the Sangamon County Farm Bureau until her children were born. Later was secretary for Athens High Scholl for 26 years until she retired in 1984.
Mrs. Mitts was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. She was an avid sports fan and never missed her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals and cherished every moment spent with her family.
She is survived by her children, Steve (Sharon) Mitts of Sherman; Judi (Rod) Coady and Jan Kemmerling of Springfield, IL; sister Kassie (Clifford) Briggs of Mt. Vernon, IN;
8 loving grandchildren, Angie (Greg) Ausmus, Trisha (Phil) Miller, Nicole (Mike) McCormick, Troy Kemmerling, Kim (Gabe) Alderman, Kari (Josh) Hudgins, Tracy (Matt) Hankins and Robert Coady; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. .
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; Thomas Wood, Edward Wood and Charles Wood; one sister Jane Giacomini Harris.
The family will greet friends from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 902 St. John’s Drive, Sherman, IL. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM.
Rev. Monsignor David Lantz will be officiating.
Burial will be at Fancy Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association.
Family is being served by Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.

My heart goes out to all of you. I know how much Ann meant to all of you & especially how much you all meant to her. She will truly be missed. But I know you all have a lot of special memories to keep for many years to come. Prayers being said for everyone one of you…..Mary & Larry Wilkens.

I am so very sorry to hear this news. Anne was a sweet lady who loved her family very much. May your memories keep you together and make you smile. I will not be able to be there but I will be thinking of you.
