Allan RV Freeland, age 89, of Petersburg, IL, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
He was born July 21, 1934 in Washington, DC, the son of Curtis and Florence Freeland.
Allan married Mary Jane Nickel on September 18, 1954 in Dayton, Ohio. She preceded him in death on October 13, 2012.
Mourning his passing are his children, Deborah Jean (husband Gary) Seldner of Camas, WA, Allan Phillip (wife Vickie) Freeland of Mason City, IL, Margaret Sue Freeland of Petersburg, IL, and Steven Curtis Freeland of Petersburg, IL; grandchildren, Bryon (wife Ashley) and Keri; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Hayden, Bre, Krue, Kyli, and Rylan; sister, Edith Bleything; close friend, Elmer Bruso; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He is also preceded in death by a grandson, Greg; and sister, Jackie Kowal,
Allan owned and operated The Village Printer in Petersburg for over 25 years.
He loved riding motorcycles all throughout his life. He and his wife rode over 130,000 miles throughout their lives across the country, sometimes taking month-long trips. He was seen riding his Harley just 2 weeks before his passing. His love and passion for motorcycles was passed onto his children.
Allan was a member of the Harley Owner’s Group and the Springfield H.O.G. Chapter.
He volunteered at several organizations, including the Senior Citizen Center in Springfield and Meals on Wheels Program, where he delivered food for homebound citizens.
During his younger years, he loved scuba diving. Later in his life he enjoyed working in his yard, and when not riding his Harley, he was out in his Ford Mustang.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 until 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at the Athens Christian Church in Athens, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Menard County Food Bank.
