Alice E. Sheppard, age 80, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday August 18, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by family.
She was born on December 16, 1935 in Tower Hill, the daughter of Kenneth and Delsie Foor.
Alice married Henry Sheppard in 1958, he later preceded her in death in 1987.
She also is preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Sheppard in 1993.
Alice is survived by a sister, Imogene (Charles) Donaldson; a step-brother, Maurice (Peggy) Tippett; her daughters, Delores (Darrell) Smith of Dawson and Hallie Gutmann of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Shelby Sheppard (Lisa LaBiche) of Covington, LA; six grandchildren, Carie Fettis, Rebecca (Jason) Johnston, Nicholas (Kelly) Sheppard, Dixie Smith, Phillip (Mikayla) Sheppard, and Derrick (Sarah Robinett) Smith; seven great-grandchildren, Colton and Wyatt Sheppard, Makayla Fettis, Sophie Sheppard, Joshua and Charlotte Johnston, and Mason Smith; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Alice was a school bus driver in North Chicago and cook for Franklin Middle School, District #186 in Springfield. She owned her own greenhouse for over twenty years. She also volunteered at HSHS St. John’s Hospital Gift Shop for over ten years. Alice’s hobbies included, ceramics, bowling, gardening, sewing, and in general was an all-around bad-ass lady.
Alice was a life-time member of the Order of Eastern Star. She attended Buffalo Christian Church in Buffalo.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
